Book Review: Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs by Molly Harper

Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs
By Molly Harper
Release Date: March 31, 2009
Summary: Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed twenty-five dollars in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.
Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate. She has to fake breathing and endure daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family. She's forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn't enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What's a nice undead girl to do?
Review: This book was so gosh darn funny! I haven't really read any light hearted paranormal romances, so I was pleasantly surprised to find I loved this book so much!
Jane, the main character, is so lovable that I just couldn't get enough of reading about her. She used to be a librarian, was fired, then as turned into a vampire. Talk about a bad day. But she is so quirky and innocent that it's so much fun watching her get the hang of being a vampire, along with meeting her sire (maker) Gabriel. Everything about Jane I could relate to and it was nice reading about someone so normal (well, except for the part about being turned into a vampire) and a huge bookworm/nerd.

Now onto the main attraction...I loved Gabriel and how he was so serious and strong (like you would expect a vampire who's over 100 years old would be) yet he would soften up a bit every time he was around Jane. All of the other vampires/werewolves/ghosts/humans were really fun too and I found myself liking almost every single character in the book. I just felt good when I was reading about them and couldn't put the book down!

The author did an awesome job mixing telling everyone's backgrounds with the actual story so that it wasn't too much of one or the other. I really got into their world and how vampires were now "out" in society and how the humans were dealing with it.

There were so many moments in the book where I smiled to myself because it was just full of fun, light-hearted moments with the added paranormal aspect to it. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series! If you're a fan of paranormal and want something more on the fun side, try this one out!
